A Unity Statement Against the Bombing of Indigenous Peoples and Rural Communities.

We, the undersigned, are sounding the alarm on the ongoing atrocities committed against Indigenous and rural peoples in conflict areas around the world.

Defend the Rural Defenders was successful in initiating a dialogue between frontline rural human rights defenders and communities from Burma, the Philippines, Bangsamoro, West Papua, and Palestine. Observers and participants from India and Pakistan also shared insights on the state of rural and IP HRDs in their respective countries.

Some local and international organizations on Friday objected to US bases in the Cagayan province of the Philippines, fearing that the recent agreement by Manila to provide four more bases to Washington in the valley region will exacerbate the already dire situation of human rights and land grabbing.
